Supplier of Fine Quality Waterston Sealing Wax
The choice of Sealing Wax used to take a wax impression is very important in order to capture the fine detail of your Seal Engraving. Like our Gold and Silver jewellery we supply the finest quality Sealing Wax free of impurities which allows the wax impression to capture every minute detail of the seal engraving. The sealing wax we supply is made by Waterstons, the oldest sealing wax makers in Great Britain.

History of Waterston Sealing Wax - The firm of Waterstons was established prior to the year 1752 by its founder William Waterston. His very first customer was none other than the Duke of Hamilton, Hereditary keeper of the Palace of Holyrood House. In 1756 Waterston was awarded, by the ‘Edinburgh Society for encouragement of Arts and Manufacturers’, two medals for the best Sealing Wax.
From the very early days when William won those first awards, efforts and experimentation went on to improve the quality and appearance of Sealing Wax. Another major accolade at the ‘Great Exhibition in the Crystal Palace’, London, was won in 1851 when,Waterston gained the highest award for ‘the excellence of brightness and colour in sealing wax’.
Todays wax is made in very much the same way as it was in those early days. The ingredients (using a secret recipe) are mixed and melted in large heated couldrons, then sieved and poured into heavy metal moulds which give the sticks of wax their shape. After cooling, the rough sticks are polished by burnishing them over heat ready to supply to customers.
The function of Sealing Wax while varied, is principally to ensure the security of documents and enclosures. In cases where Sealing Wax is used in forming decorative seals for Heraldry or for Diplomas and Certificates, a high quality Wax is essential. Care should be taken to select the correct Wax quality for your requirements. Bank of England Wax ensures good adhesion with the surface of paper. A lesser grade of Wax will not have the same effect. A crucial test of the correct quality of Wax, is that it should be impossible to remove the seal without tearing the paper.
At Thomas Flack Engravers we supply two types of Waterston Sealing Wax which are in either Red or Ivory White :
Bank of England Wax and Hand Rngravers Sealing Wax - which is a traditional hand crafted Wax that offers a superfine quality with strong adhesiveness well suited to ensuring the security of documents and letters. This Wax is also recommended for the making of Seals for all Diplomas and Certificates. The texture of the Wax allows a high definition to be achieved.
Hand Engravers Wax - is a Sealing Wax of very fine quality and is used for capturing the fine detail in family Crest and Coats of Arms Seals on Seal Rings and Desk seals.
